Q.4 Water Is Leaking From Heater?
If water leaks from one of the water fitting connections, verify the fittings.
Change the fittings if they are corroded. In case the fittings are healthy, the threaded inlet and outlet openings might have been damaged by electrolysis. You cannot repair the openings since they are portion of the inner tank. In such case you need to change the tank. Go through the warranty statement.
In case water comes out through the pressure/temperature relief valve:
- Check whether the relief valve is rated for a maximum water temperature of 210F and a maximum pressure of 150 psi. In order to ensure a proper distance from the heating element, the temperature probe must not be more than 4 inches long.
- If in case any plumbing task was been done recently, make sure there are no backflow prevention equipment fitted to the cold side of the tank. Such devices can hinder thermal expansion and results in the increase of pressures beyond 150 psi. Verify the inlet water pressure for the building. A damaged water pressure regulator may lead to pressures beyond 150 psi.
- When heating, observe the indicator light of thermostat. As the heater attains the set temperature, the indicator light should turn off to avoid overheating. In case the indicator light is on even when the discharged water is steaming, the thermostat is faulty and should be supplanted.
Water leaking from behind the front cover:
- Remove the plug from the outlet.
- Take off the front cover and examine the gasket around the element. If the gasket is leaking, it needs replacement.
- If there is a water leakage from any other point on the tank, it cannot be mended. The tank needs to be changed. Go through the warranty statement.
